Moving Forward To Focus on Nutrition

As many of you will know as well as being the founder of Skirr I am also a Nutritional Therapist with a special interest in energy and performance. I work with people who simply want to have more energy whether that be athletes or someone suffering from a condition like chronic fatigue or long covid. I help them to work out what might be causing them to have low energy  levels and what they can do to help increase it and optimise their health and vitatliy. I do this using my knowledge and expertise in nutrition and lifestyle medicine.

If you are interested in learning more about my nutritional therapy then please head over and check out my website at and sign up for my monthly newsletter which includes seasonal recipes, my favourite book and podcast recommendations.

So you might be wondering what me telling you all this about my “other” life has to do with Skirr. Well over the past three months I have been trying to decide how to proceed with Skirr, which is still a very small niche business. As you know we well highly effective skincare solutions that are made with a sustainable ethos using sustainable practices. We sell mainly to adventure and endurance athletes participating in sports such as running, swimming and cycling.

When we launched in February 2020 we didn’t know what was about to happen in the world and our original business plan was to sell at events and of course they were all cancelled.  We struggle initially as we couldn't get any grant support like other businesses due to us only having been in business for a short period of time. This year I decided not to attend events again as the risk was unpredictable and I didn't want to buy stock and not be able to sell.

We have of course had fantastic support from our customers, our ambassadors and our friends who have helped promote the brand. But we are struggling to keep going as we are for two main reasons. Firstly my nutritional therapy business has grown and now consumes all of my working hours and I absolutely love it and want to help as many people as possible. As well as seeing clients as a therapist I am also writing a course to help people with their energy levels and plan on starting a podcast too. This means that ultimately I need someone else to come on board on take over the helm at Skirr.

The second reason that we are struggling is that our customer base is not growing as quickly as I would have liked. This is relate to me not being able to spend enough time on the marketing and being able to develop relationships with and get into retail. Someone with the time to dedicate to it and who is willing to take the time and put in the effort on the marketing side of things will be able to make a real impact on the number of people who get to see an know the brand.

Skirr needs to grow and it certainly could do, we know people love our products and love our ethos. How do we know this? Well we get great feedback from YOU on our products to start with! We have been approached by a university to do some research into how effective our product is as we are the ONLY Scottish sport skincare company they could find with a sustainable business model. We have been OFFERED grants to develop an innovative packaging solution for a ladies cycling cream. We have create a PARTNERSHIP with an exciting packaging company to do this work. We have worked collaboartively with events like THE PLANET EARTH GAMES. We won one of the 2020 SCOTTISH ENVIRONMENT BUSINESS AWARDS for demonstrating significant business benefits from good environmental practice.

BUT unfortunately I feel I am no longer the right person to be able to take SKIRR forward. So I am currently SEARCHING for someone who would like to take the company FORWARD. I am reaching out into the sustainable skincare world, the sports world, the skincare world and my local community. I would so LOVE to find someone who would passionately like to see SKIRR succeed and step forward to take it on. I would of course off my full SUPPORT.

If this might be YOU then please get in touch and we can have a chat and take it from there. Email me at Here's hoping!
